Springfield CEO donates $10k for children’s heart surgery.

In fulfilment of his commitment to support the needy to access healthcare in the country, the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the Springfield Group, Mr Kevin Okyere on Monday March 12, donated Ghc 450, 000 (Four Hundred and Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis, equivalent to $10,000) to the National Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for the surgery of five children who suffer from different heart diseases.

The Children, all of whom are under three years have, until now, been on the waiting list for surgery, as their parents and guardians employ various means to raise funds for correction of their medical conditions. This is the third batch of children benefitting from Mr Okyere’s donation to the Centre in aid of heart surgeries. Previous support to the Centre has helped 12 children to survive life-threatening conditions and almost all of them except one, are living normal lives.

The cheque was handed over by Ms. Akua Agyekumaa-Kwakwa of the Human Resource Department of Springfield to Dr Kow Entsua-Mensah of the Cardio Centre. He thanked Mr Okyere for the gesture and noted that such acts of benevolence helped to put smiles back on the faces of many parents who go through agonizing periods trying to raise funds for the surgery of their children and wards.

He urged other corporate institutions operating in the country to contribute generously to support the Centre to save lives. Between 6000-8000 infants are born annually with hole-in-heart sickness in Ghana.
