Our stakeholders are critical in our drive towards harnessing the rich hydrocarbon resources of Ghana, in the WCTP Block 2 Area. As co-users of the sea, it is necessary to inform Fishermen whenever there is an upcoming major operation such as a seismic survey, drilling or well appraisal.
It is in this light that our Community Relations and Stakeholder Engagement Team met with the leadership of Fishers and Queen Mothers from across the six coastal districts of the Western Region of Ghana on October 15th and 16th to inform them about the arrival of the DeepSea
Bollsta, a semi-submersible rig for the appraisal of the Afina discovery which includes the re-entry of the Afina 1-X well and the conduct of a Drill Stem Test amongst other related activities.
The DeepSea Bollsta arrived on the 18th, commenced operations on the 20th of October and is scheduled to complete its task in approximately one month.
The interactive engagement sessions highlighted the risks involved in fishing close to the rig and the need to observe the internationally standardised 500m exclusion zone in the operational area of the rig. Officials from regulatory institutions and Commissions such as The Petroleum Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, Fisheries Commission, Marine Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Navy joined our Partners, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation to lend us support in the engagement process.
